Women like wearing human hair extensions because the texture blends well with their own hair and it lasts longer. However, with the overwhelming amount of online stores selling human hair extensions, you may want to know that there are many types of human hair extensions and not all are created equal.

When it comes to hair extensions, there is a lot to learn. It is important to know that not all hair extensions are human hair, even when they claim to be. Some online hair extension companies will mix animal hair or synthetic hair in what they call “human hair extensions” to save on costs, this hair tends to be sold for a cheaper amount and will usually fall apart within weeks of wear.

With so many online stores selling a variety of human hair extensions, how to check the authenticity of human hairs offered ?

There are many types of human hair extensions but not all are created equal. Some hair extensions that claim to be 100 percent human hair may contain some animal hairs or synthetic fibres. These hair extensions are sold cheap but do not stay for long. At first glance or initially, you may not notice the difference but after few days of wearing it falls apart and looks and feels unnatural. Additionally, these hair extensions can not be colored/made blonde and can not be styled with heat.

How to choose from the variety of human hairs offered by hair suppliers from different parts of world ?

Before explaining further, we would like to say that there are no such hairs as Brazilian hairs, Peruvian Hairs or Malaysian Hairs, these are all made up terms. Actually, There are three types of human hair extensions :

A) RAW HAIR EXTENSIONS – Raw hair are the highest quality human hairs available in the market. These are the hairs which have never gone through a chemical process (no perms, no hair colour, no chemical treatment) These hairs are collected from virgin hair donors usually younger women and hence the hairs are healthy with no greys or split ends. These hairs don’t require any processing to make them look beautiful. These are naturally soft and shiny. Virgin hair lasts up to 4 years if the care of hair extensions is done properly. These raw human hairs are mostly used for making Wigs, Bulk Hairs, Sew in Extensions, Clip-in Extensions, Tape-in Extensions.

B) VIRGIN REMY HAIR EXTENSIONS – Remy hair extensions are the most popular human hair extensions in international market due to its quality and price. In the collection process of Remy hairs, the hairs are cut / shaved off from the head of donor in such a way that hairs are aligned in natural direction as it grew and all hair strands follow the same direction and hence there is no tangling or matting. And since these hairs are not processed with any chemicals, so, hair cuticles are also intact, which results in longevity of hairs and it gives the freedom to user to style these hairs in as many wash as you want.

C) NON REMY HAIR EXTENSIONS – With Non Remy Hairs, the collection process of hair varies (from the floors of temples or salons or random supplies) so the cuticle directions become mixed which causes tangling and shedding and matting problems. Hence, non remy hairs are processed with harsh chemicals and hair cuticles are removed completely and then hairs are coated with silicon to make hairs smooth and look shiny. However, these non remy hairs are not durable. With number of washes, the silicon coating slowly goes away resulting in harsh and brittle hairs. Non remy hair extensions are also not able to tolerate color treatment or heat process.

How is virgin hair different from raw hair?

Virgin hair are chosen and mixed together from many donors. In Raw hair, bundle of hair from each donor is kept intact. Virgin hair, may have been previously processed (coloured/permed) but Raw hair come from a hair donor that has never had any chemical treatment on their hair.
